This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use thelivinglightchurch.com, why we collect it, how we use it, and what rights you have over it. Written to satisfy the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and the NDPR (Nigeria Data Protection Regulation 2019).

1. Who we are

The Living Light Church (TLLC) is a local church in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. We hold this website at thelivinglightchurch.com to share teachings, the daily Living Oasis devotional, and information about our gatherings.

2. What this policy covers

This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use thelivinglightchurch.com, why we collect it, how we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and what rights you have over it.

This policy is governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and any regulations made under it.

3.2 Information collected automatically

When you visit our website, we automatically collect:

Your IP address and the country it points to
The pages you visit and how long you spend on them
The device, browser and operating system you use
How you arrived at our site (search engine, social link, direct visit)

We collect this to understand how the site is used and to make it better. We do not use it to identify you personally.

3.3 Cookies

We use cookies. A cookie is a small text file a website saves on your device. We use them for three things:

Essential cookies, needed for the site to work. You cannot turn these off.
Analytics cookies, to tell us how many people visit and which pages are read. We use Google Analytics (when enabled) to do this.
Functional cookies, to remember your preferences, such as which year you last filtered the Teachings page by.

You can refuse non-essential cookies through the consent banner that appears when you first visit. You can also clear or block cookies through your browser settings.

4. Why we use your information

We use your information only for the purposes you would expect from a local church:

To respond to your messages, prayer requests, and questions
To send you the devotional if you signed up for it
To let you know about upcoming services, special meetings, and events, only if you asked us to
To improve the website and the teachings we share
To meet our legal obligations under Nigerian law

We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers. We do not use your prayer requests for any purpose other than to pray for you.

5. Lawful basis for processing

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, we need a lawful basis to process your personal data. We rely on:

Consent, when you sign up for the devotional, agree to cookies, or fill a form that says you agree to be contacted.
Legitimate interest, to respond to enquiries you initiate, to keep the website working, and to keep our records of teachings safely.
Legal obligation, when the law requires us to keep records.

6. Who we share your data with

We share your data only with the following:

Our service providers, who help run the site (web hosting via Hostinger, email via Gmail and similar approved providers). They process data only on our instructions.
Authorities, if the law requires us to disclose data (for example, a court order).

We do not share your data with churches, ministries, or organisations outside TLLC.

7. International transfers

Our website is hosted on Hostinger. Some of our service providers may store data outside Nigeria, including in the European Union or the United States. Where data leaves Nigeria, we make sure the receiving party offers adequate protection in line with the NDPA.

9. Your rights under the NDPA

You have the following rights over your personal data:

Right to access, to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Right to rectification, to correct any data that is wrong.
Right to erasure, to ask us to delete your data.
Right to object, to tell us to stop using your data for a particular purpose.
Right to data portability, to receive a copy of your data in a usable format.
Right to withdraw consent, to change your mind at any time when we are relying on your consent.
Right to lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) at ndpc.gov.ng if you feel we have not handled your data properly.

10. How we keep your data safe

We take reasonable steps to protect your data. The site runs on HTTPS, our admin accounts use strong passwords and (where available) two-factor authentication, and we limit who can access personal data inside the church to those who need it for their role.

No system is perfectly secure. If we ever experience a data breach that affects you, we will tell you and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission within 72 hours, as the law requires.

11. Children

Our website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us their data, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top. For significant changes we will let you know through a notice on the website or by email if we have your address.
